In a groundbreaking move, the Federal Government has signed a 30-year concession agreement with Quaint Energy, paving the way for two ambitious hydropower projects: the 6-megawatt Ikere Gorge project in Oyo State and the 2-megawatt Omi-Kampe project in Kogi State. Together, these initiatives will add a substantial 8 megawatts to the nation's electricity supply.

Chief Adebayo Adelabu, the Minister of Power, emphasized that these hydropower projects are not mere energy investments. They are strategic interventions aimed at transforming rural economies, enhancing local productivity, and expanding energy access.
"These projects will act as catalysts for rural economic growth, supporting agricultural processing zones, small industries, and social infrastructure," Adelabu stated.

A Bright Future for Nigeria's Energy Sector
The Minister highlighted the significant progress made in the power sector, including the decentralisation of the electricity market, the development of a new National Integrated Electricity Policy, and substantial new investments. The sector's revenue has grown by an impressive 70% in 2024, and government liabilities have been reduced by ₦700 billion.
Additionally, Nigeria's grid has been synchronised with the West African Power Pool (WAPP), connecting all 14 member countries. This achievement has increased installed capacity to 14GW, with a record peak generation of 5,801.44MW on March 4, 2025.

Reiterating the government's commitment to a private sector-led energy transition, Adelabu urged investors to seize the opportunities presented by Nigeria's evolving electricity market and improving policy environment.
"Today's concession is a testament to our collective efforts and a demonstration of the government's commitment to working hand-in-hand with the private sector to deliver tangible results for our people," he declared.
Femi Adeyanju, Chairman of Quaint Energy, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to Nigeria's energy development, stating that these agreements will not only improve electricity generation but also enhance water supply for irrigation in both host states.
